HOUSE VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa support the daily operations of the House by assisting with tasks like cleaning, preparing guest rooms, organizing donations, doing laundry, and other various tasks. These roles ensures a clean, welcoming, and comfortable environment for families staying at the House while their children receive medical care. Whether you are an individual or a group, there are lots of opportunities to volunteer!

  

OPPORTUNITIES

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS: If you are looking for a one-time individual volunteer opportunity, please reach out to volunteer@rmhdesmoines.org.

House Helpers are individuals looking for a consistent schedule to volunteer at our Houses for at least 6 months. We rely on our House Helpers to keep our Houses clean and welcoming for our families. Our House Helpers warm the hearts of our families and truly make our two Houses a home-away-from-home. This includes preparing rooms for the next family to check in, laundry, light cleaning, organizing donations, stocking our pantries, and more! 

  • Must be available for 2-3 hours on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
  • Adults: Requires at least a 6 month time commitment
  • Students: Requires a commitment of 2 semesters or a full summer
  • House Helpers must be at least 16 years of age or volunteer alongside an adult
  • Please no court mandated service hours

GROUP VOLUNTEERS: Volunteering with family, friends, or coworkers can be a great way to help the families that are staying at the RMHC of Central Iowa. Whether you are seeking a team-building experience, creating a learning opportunity for students, or wanting a fun activity with your family and friends, we have lots of opportunities for you to volunteer with your group.

 

When volunteering with your group, please note some House regulations:

  • Due to the size of our House, we ask that you keep your group to 10 people or less per
    activity.
  • All members must be 10 years of age or older, and individuals 18 years of age or older
    must scan their driver’s license through our LobbyGuard.
